The Role of Creativity in Writing

Creativity, in essence, is a tool for problem solving. It is a noun that defines the ability to create and invent, innovate, reinvent, or improve what already exists.

However, the creative manifestation is not something simple most of the time, it demands repertoire and discipline. It is necessary to look for authentic solutions to new problems. Creativity is associated with authentic and original ideas and, best of all, it can and should be developed by anyone. Everyone is creative! Everyone is born with the ability to create and find unexpected solutions.

Albert Einstein used to say that “creativity is intelligence having fun,” which is an excellent definition. Creativity is a combination of a set of elements, experiences, information, references and, mainly, repertoire. No good idea comes up by chance. Great ideas are often combinations of patterns, processes, or solutions that already exist.

What is the relationship between creativity and writing?

Writing requires discipline, dedication, and inspiration. Creativity is about solving problems in an original way. Ready! This is the point of tangency. With the help of creative solutions, any story, tale, poetry, or chronicle becomes more interesting.

A creative premise and argument can draw readers to your work with just a few lines read. Many stories have already been told, so including a different point of view is critical to attracting readers to your work. 

A great example of creativity in literature are the plot twists. 

Plot twists are radical changes in the expected or anticipated storytelling direction of a novel, film, television series, comic book, video game, or other narrative work. It is a widely used practice to keep the audience interested in the work by surprising them with a striking revelation. Writing a plot twist requires creativity to surprise the audience.

How to develop creativity?

Being creative is the quality of a person who thinks differently, outside the box, and seeks to innovate to get out of the expected pattern, offering more positive and original results. So, how to be creative?

The answer is: studying and improving your eye! Creativity can be innate, but one can also find ways to improve and highlight their creative potential. 

One of the main ways to achieve more creative results is to give up a more logical line of reasoning and put aside pre-judgments that can prevent the birth of innovative and different ideas. 

To stay creative, you need to think freely, create the habit leaving your comfort zone, exposing yourself to new stimuli, and constantly exploring new realities.
