3 Mistakes Every Beginner Writer Makes

Here is how to avoid them:

Have you just started writing? So, stay tuned that this post is especially for you.

In the beginning, it is quite common to be filled with erroneous details. After all, readers are highly sensitive to errors since they get deeply focused on reading to understand the narrative.

And it is all right!

The following are three mistakes that will help you notice and prevent this from happening to you.

1 - FIRST-PERSON AND FAST-PACED STORYTELLING.

Describing in a single line almost everything the character did, like: "I woke up, changed my clothes, brushed my teeth, and went to have breakfast.”

First, you must go deep into the protagonist's routine. But minute details are useless since excess information is also a mistake for boring the readers.

Example of a misspelled line: “I woke up, changed, brushed my teeth and went to have breakfast, then went to work. I remembered the dream I had, and it was strange.”

Here is an example of a properly written line: “This morning I woke up thoughtful, suddenly I remembered why … of course, the dream I had! I walked to the sink to brush my teeth, trying to understand. This dream haunted me for a while, but I managed to get my clothes on in time to have my breakfast and run to work.”

2 - DEVELOP A ROMANCE TOO FAST

Usually, when starting to write, we get eager to describe scenes already imagined and planned. One is when the couple finally gets together. Yet, care must be taken so that the story is not so predictable. Explore characters' emotions.

Are you wondering when the couple should get together? It all depends on how you plan your story. The point is that in novels, readers like to know how the characters feel, and what they feel, and follow the famous "flirting."

3 - DO NOT SPOIL THE PLOT ALL AT ONCE

When working with two genres within the same story, this error is quite common.

As said above, we get anxious and want to speed things up and, in some cases, we end up forgetting details of the stories. Hence, the writer focuses on working in one genre and forgets the other, for example: fantasy with romance.

When there is no deepening of both themes in your story, the readers lose interest in reading since they were told that both genres would be dealt with.

Review your chapters to avoid such an error.

This post covered very few mistakes of a beginning writer, but if you want to know more, stay tuned here on the Epublik Blog.
